Guramishvili: Middle Corridor countries working to increase cargo capacity

The participating countries of the Middle Corridor are actively working to improve components important for handling increased cargo traffic, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Guram Guramishvili said at a regional event on the Middle Corridor in Georgia, Report informs via Georgian media.

“The role of the Middle Corridor has increased significantly, and we, the participating countries, are actively working to intensify cargo attraction and to improve those components of the corridor that are important and necessary for handling the increased volume of cargo,” he said.

The Georgian government believes that today the Middle Corridor, which runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye to European countries, is the most attractive and reliable transport link between East and West, Europe and Asia.

Georgia is hosting a regional presentation of the World Bank report Trade and Transport Middle Corridor – Sector Policies and Investments to Triple Freight Transportation and Halve Travel Time by 2030. The event is attended by members of the governments of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Armenia, as well as development partners, and representatives of the private and civil sectors.
