Grynspan: Having one's own home is key to ensuring stability in society

Having one's own home is the foundation of human dignity and a key condition for ensuring stability in society.

Report informs that Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), said this at an event held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

According to her, without housing and a supportive community, states inevitably face internal upheaval, rising violence and deep public disillusionment with the existing system.

Having an official address is crucial, as this is where genuine citizenship status begins.

"A home is a space where human dignity is formed and, at the same time, the basic unit of a stable society," she said.

Grynspan also shared her personal experience of serving as Costa Rica's housing minister in the 1990s, noting that this work was the most difficult, but also the most rewarding, of her career, as it allowed her to see firsthand how acquiring a home qualitatively changes people's lives.
