"For many years, Georgia has been actively involved in projects such as TRACECA, the Middle Corridor and the Black Sea-Caspian Corridor. The aim of these projects is to create effective, short and reliable transport routes between Asia and Europe,” Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava told a roundtable meeting of Ministers on the Trans-Caspian Route (Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan) in Istanbul, Report's local bureau informs.

The minister spoke about the role and importance of regional transport and logistics ties between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of Georgia as a transcontinental player in this context.

"Georgia continues to increase the efficiency and sustainability of transport corridors with partner countries. The increase in freight traffic through Georgia clearly shows the growth potential of the Euro-Asian transport corridor. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we were able to maintain the functionality and growth trend of such routes," she said.

Turnava informed her colleagues about the transport and infrastructure projects implemented in Georgia and future plans in this direction. She noted that the development of healthy transport infrastructure and relevant opportunities is a priority for Georgia.

In this regard, the minister focused on several projects, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the development of the East-West highway and the port infrastructure, which are under construction in Georgia.

She stressed that a new tender is planned for the Anaklia deep seaport, and the development of logistics centers through private investment is also on the agenda.
