Georgian finance minister: Trade turnover with Azerbaijan may up by 2-3-fold 300,000 containers may be sent per year through BTK railway

Georgian finance minister: Trade turnover with Azerbaijan may up by 2-3-fold

Baku. 22 December. REPORT.AZ/ Successful reforms are underway in Azerbaijan, which is a strategic partner and major investor of Georgia and exchange of experience between the two countries is important in this regard.

Report informs, Georgian finance minister Mamuka Bakhtadze told reporters.

He also said that the trade turnover between the two countries may increase by 2-3-fold: "There is a good prospect of trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan. An increase was observed in the trade turnover this year and the turnover may increase by 2-3-fold on the account of the projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, Southern Gas Corridor".

According to the Georgian minister, after full launch of the BTK, it is expected to transport 5 mln tonnes of cargo at its initial stage and reaching of this figure to 10 mln tonnes in the next years: "Demand for this corridor is higher than expected. We estimate that 300,000 containers will be transported via the railway line".
