The European Union emphasized the importance of restoring communications infrastructure between Armenia and Azerbaijan in particular and the South Caucasus more broadly while fully respecting the sovereignty of all countries.

According to Report, EU Council President Charles Michel said in a statement on the results of a trilateral meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels, Belgium.

The EU is ready to support the development of connectivity links, in line with its Economic and Investment Plan. The proposed economic advisory platform can also support this process.

It was agreed to proceed with the restoration of railway lines, which envisages the construction of a railway along the Zangazur corridor. The statement also stressed appropriate arrangements for border and customs controls based on the principle of reciprocity. Thus, Azerbaijan's rightful position on the corridor was reaffirmed.

The sides widely discussed the communication and transport lines between the two countries. The Armenian side confirmed its commitment to constructing a railway line via its territory. Armenia will soon start laying a railroad.
