"The average speed limit in Azerbaijan's railways will be 20-30 km this year," Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov told REAL TV, Report informs.
According to Gurbanov, the increase in the speed limit will provide convenience in transportation.
The Chairman also reminded that the freightage in Azerbaijan's railway rose by 1.250 million tonnes in 2019 compared to 2018.
Gurbanov also noted that the Asian Development Bank (ABD) issued a loan for the construction of the Baku-Yalama railway, and the works are already about to commence.
"We also plan to connect the Baku-Balaken railway with a direct railway to increase the speed. By the end of this year, the average speed will increase by 20-30 km."
