China's National Development and Reform Commission has issued a circular letter that bans the construction of new skyscrapers taller than 500 meters amid efforts to toughen inspections of supertall buildings.
Report informs citing Xinhua that the document also strictly limits the construction of new buildings higher than 250 meters.
It enhances requirements to buildings higher than 250 meters on several aspects, including fire safety.
Moreover, construction plans of buildings higher than 100 meters will be subject to strict control in terms of anti-seismic characteristics.
The document notes that the new high-rise buildings must correspond to the scale of the city and fire-fighting capacities. The letter states that local authorities are improving the management of the construction facilities in terms of safety and quality. However, there are still some shortages that may lead to potentially dangerous situations. To further intensify the management of construction facilities, it is primarily necessary to adhere to the principle of quality and ensure the security of life and property, the document says.
