Bulgaria becomes next chairman country in IGC TRACECA

The Fifteenth Annual Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) TRACECA was held in Sofia, the Republic of Bulgaria, via videoconferencing, Report informs, citing the Digital Development and Transport Ministry.

Within the Agenda of the Meeting, it discussed issues related to the transfer of the chairmanship of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria, digitalization of transport documents, development of multimodal transport, as well as simplification of border crossing procedures, including through the introduction of electronic queues at checkpoints.

The head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Minister Rashad Nabiyev, handed over the chairmanship to Bulgaria on behalf of our country under the existing practice within TRACECA.

The Minister also spoke about the work done by Azerbaijan within the framework of TRACECA, as well as the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia international transport corridor during his presidency.

The speech noted that the restoration of transport and economic ties after the 44-day war, which resulted in the liberation of the occupied territories of our country, will contribute to the further development and expansion of the TRACECA corridor. The meeting participants were informed about the reconstruction and construction of infrastructure destroyed due to the occupation.

At the same time, the participants stressed the need to increase the competitiveness of the TRACECA corridor in several areas, particularly the harmonization of border crossing procedures and the elimination of regulatory and administrative barriers to transportation. The need for digitalization as a driving force in this process was noted, and TRACECA's concept of digitalization was welcomed.

At the end of the meeting, the Final Resolution of the 15th meeting of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission and the Sofia Declaration were adopted.
