Azerbaijan to join Trans-Siberian railway line

Russia intends to carry out a part of cargo transportation via Trans-Siberian railway line in order to deliver to Turkey through Azerbaijan and Georgia, then to Europe, First Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Russian Railways OJSC Alexander Misharin told RIA Novosti.

"This project is being implemented in accordance with the agreement among Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The matter is about two railway lines, which will allow to transport cargos to Turkey through Azerbaijan and Georgia, then to Europe," Misharin said.

Since late 2017, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway has been transporting cargo. At the first stage, the transportation capacity will be 6.5 million tonnes and 1 million passengers.

BTK allows reduction of transportation period of goods from China to Europe.
