Azerbaijan, EBRD discuss support for conflict-affected economies

Azerbaijan's First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev attended the plenary session of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Riga, Latvia, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Economy told Report.

The session discussed the EBRD's annual review for 2025, the strategic and capital framework for 2026-2030, a report on the implementation of commitments under the 2023 capital increase, the strategy implementation plan, as well as the bank's institutional activities and financial statements.

The event featured an exchange of views on the EBRD's future priorities, promoting sustainable economic growth, green and digital transformation, private sector development, strengthening economic resilience, investment in human capital and expanding regional cooperation.

Aliyev spoke at a roundtable held during the plenary session on the role of the EBRD in supporting economies affected by conflicts. The impact of conflicts on the economy, investment and regional ties was highlighted, and attention was drawn to the fact that the recovery process is not limited to the reconstruction of infrastructure, but also includes the revival of economic activity, support for the private sector and ensuring long-term sustainability. The work carried out in Azerbaijan's liberated territories to support recovery and reintegration, infrastructure development, job creation, promotion of small and medium-sized businesses and strengthening regional connectivity was also brought to attention. It was noted that the EBRD could make an important contribution to the development of economies affected by conflicts by attracting private investment, improving governance, and supporting energy security and connectivity projects.
