The Aktau sea trade port proposes to establish special tariffs for 2024 for the transshipment of cargo in containers in the direction of China-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Europe, Report informs referring to the Kazakh Transport Ministry.
In order to develop trans-Kazakhstan corridors, the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) annually reviews and accepts competitive tariff conditions in transit traffic, taking into account market conditions, including on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
According to the Ministry of Transport, the tariffs offered by the Aktau port provide for the transportation of 20-foot containers for $60/1 container (excluding VAT), 40-foot containers - $80/1 container (excluding VAT).
“Such tariffs are offered subject to the provision of similar rates for transshipment along the above route from the port of Baku (Alat), as well as discounts for transportation from railway operators through the territory of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Railways, Georgia Railways and Türkiye,” the Transport Ministry noted.
Along with this, the port of Kuryk is ready to consider the possibility of providing preferential conditions for shippers/cargo carriers if there is a guaranteed volume of cargo.
“In addition, in order to develop the logistics of international transportation through the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk, it is planned to create a united transport and logistics company along the TITR in 2024 with the involvement of Turkish and Chinese partners,” the ministry added.
On May 22, the government of Kazakhstan approved the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Country’s Maritime Infrastructure for 2024-2028, which provides for an increase in the capacity of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk by 2029 from the current 21 million tons per year to 32 million tons per year, including containers capacity to 200,000 TEU per year.
“The implementation of the plan will make it possible to create a developed transport and logistics cluster based on the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk in the next five years,” the Ministry of Transport said.
