Azerbaijan doubles profits from polyethylene exports

In April this year, Azerbaijan exported polyethylene in primary forms worth $12 million ($8.4 million or 3.3 times more than in the same month last year), Report informs, citing the May 2020 issue of the "Export Review" of the Center for Economic Reforms Analysis and Communication.

At the same time, in January-April 2021, Azerbaijan exported $33.6 million worth of polyethylene in primary forms, which is $17.3 million or $2.06 million more than in the same period of 2020.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced at the SOCAR Polymer plant in Azerbaijan. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Exports of polypropylene began on October 5 of the same year.
