World judo champion in Baku: "I am Azerbaijani" - VIDEO

Baku. 25 September. REPORT.AZ/ Iranian judoka Said Mollayi, world champion in the 81kg weight category competing in Baku, is reported to be of Azerbaijani origin.

According to Report, the 26-year-old athlete said in his statement that though he is from the Iranian city Khoy of Western Azerbaijan, he now lives in Urmia.

Mollayi stressed that he dedicated his gold medal to the Azerbaijani people: "I became the world champion in Baku and I presented the gold medal to all Azerbaijani people. There was no athlete from Azerbaijan in my weight category. So, I devoted my medal to all Azerbaijanis. I want to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 2020 ".

Notably, Said Mollayi also claimed a gold medal at the Fourth Islamic Solidarity Games Baku-2017.
