Unveiled opening date of "ShamkirChess 2018" tournament

Baku. 5 April. REPORT.AZ/ Time of the solemn opening ceremony of the “ShamkirChess 2018” super tournament devoted to the memory of Vugar Hashimov, the late Azerbaijani Grand chess master, the champion of Europe, was announced.

Report was informed in the tournament's press service, the event will take place on April 18 at Heydar Aliyev Center in Shamkir. The competition consisting of 9 rounds will end on April 28.

The super tournament will be held with organizational support of SOCAR, Ministry of Youth and Sports and Azerbaijan Chess Federation. 10 strong grand chess masters occupying high ranks in FIDE rating will also participate in Vugar Hashimov Memorial Tournament of XXI category.

Organizational Committee of the tournament has already clarified the list of participants.

Azerbaijan will be represented in the Vugar Hashimov Memorial Tournament by Shahriyar Mammadyarov, the two-time winner of ShamkirChess super tournament, three-time champion of Europe, World champion in rapid chess, who occupies the second place in FIDE rating (2814), Teymur Rajabov, three-time champion of Europe, bronze medalist of the world championship (2748) and Rauf Mammadov, three-time champion of Europe, champion of Europe in blitz chess (2704).

Magnus Carlsen, a representative of Norway will be a rating favorite of the tournament of XXI category. The present world champion occupies 1^st place in the ranking table of the International Chess Federation with 2843 points.
