Youth and Sports Ministry: Our boxers return to Baku tonight

Tonight, Azerbaijani athletes will return to Baku from the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which was suspended in London, the capital of Great Britain.

Press secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Samaya Mammadova told Report that the delegation will fly from London tonight and will be in Baku tomorrow morning. The Ministry sent boxing team to the competition. However, the current process and freezing of games have changed the sequence of events. As always, the Ministry of Youth and Sports sends athletes to training camps and competitions. It was one of the qualifying tournaments for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games, so we sent our team to the tournament. The current processes and the suspending of the competition changed the course of events. Chief of the Sports Department of the Ministry Farid Mansurov is also in the delegation.

We keep in contact with him. Our goal is to help athletes to return home safely and protect their health. The delegation will return by direct flight. 

Farid Mansurov told Report that everything is fine regarding the health of the athletes.

The European Qualifying Tournament that started on March 14 was to end on March 24. However, the race was suspended on March 16 because of coronavirus outbreak and postponed until May.
