Baku meeting hosts national taekwondo, judo, athletics teams back from World Championship and Universiade

Baku. 5 September. REPORT.AZ/ A meeting was held today at the Ministry of Youth and Sports with members of the Azerbaijani national taekwondo team winning 2 medals at the World Championship in South Korea’s Muju city and the national team grabbing 8 medals at the XXIX World Student Summer Universiade in Taipei, China.

Report informs, the Head of the Sport Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sport Farid Mansurov, coaches of taekwondo, judo and athletics teams and athletes attended the event.

Farid Mansurov said that Azerbaijani athletes successfully competed at both races. He highlighted the high importance of the efforts of the Federation and coaches.

Director General of the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation (ATF) Naghi Safarov noted that the team had met the expectations at the competitions. According to him, the national taekwondo team claiming 2 medals at the World Championship and 5 medals at the Universiade, is capable of showing better results.

Azer Shikhalizade, the head coach of the judo team in Taipei, said that he felt sorry that one of the athletes could not claim a medal: “We wanted all three athletes to win medals. Nevertheless, we have grabbed one gold and one bronze.”

Gold medalist of the Universiade Nazim Babayev called the year successful for himself: “I have tried to meet the expectations and will continue this way.”
