IOC promises action after Azerbaijan's athletes receive defective medals at Paris Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has responded to a request from the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Azerbaijan regarding the quality of medals won by Azerbaijani athletes at the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

According to Report, the IOC has recommended that the NOC provide information about the affected athletes and photographs of the medals for further examination. After a thorough investigation, the committee will provide clarification on the procedure for replacing the defective medals.

Previously, five Azerbaijani athletes who won awards at the Paris Olympic Games had filed complaints with the NOC about the deteriorating quality of their medals. In response, the committee conducted a necessary investigation and sent an official request to the IOC. The gold medal of Olympic judo champion Zelim Kotsoev, the silver medals of taekwondo athlete Hashim Magomedov and boxer Alfonso Dominguez, as well as the bronze medals of Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov and freestyle wrestler Georgi Meshvildishvili, have all suffered from peeling coating.
