International Paralympic Committee elects new president

Baku. 8 September. REPORT.AZ/ UAE capital Abu Dhabi has today held presidential elections to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Report informs citing Twitter page of the committee, Brazilian Andrew Parsons was elected a new president after winning majority of votes.

The 40-year-old functionary has replaced 67-year-old Philip Craven in this post.

Patrick Jarvis from Canada, John Petersson from Denmark and Haidi Zhang from China were among the nominees. They got 12, 19 and 47 points respectively. Former IPC Vice President A. Parsons collected 84 votes.

Chinese delegates lodged an appeal against the results. It was quickly turned down, however, by the IPC.

Notably, Philip Craven had been leading the committee since 2001.
