Chingiz Huseynzade re-nominated for EOC Executive Committee

Baku. 27 September. REPORT.AZ/ Only one person was nominated for the position of the president of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

Report informs, this is current EOC Acting President Slovenian Janez Kocijančič. The election will take place in Zagreb, Croatia on November 24-25 within the framework of the Committee's General Assembly. Another major European organization, UEFA is also headed by Slovenian, Alexander Čeferin.

Zagreb meeting will also elect EOC vice president, secretary general and treasurer. 23 candidates were nominated for 13 seats in the Executive Committee elections. Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee (NOC), Chingiz Huseynzade is also among them. If elected, Ch.Huseynzade will continue his activity for the next term. He is a member of the Executive Committee since 2013.

Notably, former EOC president Patrick Hickey was arrested in August 2016 for suspicion on selling illegal tickets to the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He was charged with theft, money laundering and tax evasion. In December 2016, he was allowed to leave Brazil and return to his homeland. Trial of 72-year-old Hickey will begin on November 29.
