Baku. 1 November. REPORT.AZ/ Decisions on future careers of head coaches of Azerbaijani national taekwondo and box teams, medal winners of Rio Olympics 2016 have been taken. Executive director of both federations Naghi Safarov told Report.
He noted that contract with head coach of national taekwondo team Rza Mehmandust has been extended. Iranian specialist will manage the team until 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. We may further extend the contract if team gets good results.
Head coach of national box team Pedro Roke has been dismissed due to end of contract. According to N.Safarov, federation displeased with Cuban specialists’ performance. He told they haven’t yet decided on new head coach: “There are some candidates. At present, sportsmen are training in their clubs. We expect to assign new head coach before January, 2017.
Notably, Azerbaijani taekwondo fighters won 1 gold and 2 bronze medals in Rio 2016, while boxers returned only with one silver medal. Minister of Emergency Kamaladdin Heydarov is the president of both federations.
