Azerbaijan Wrestling Championship opens in Baku

Baku. 15 December. REPORT.AZ/ The opening ceremony of Azerbaijani freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling championship was held in Baku Sports Palace.

Report informs referring to official website of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation (AWF), opening ceremony of the championship started with a parade of athletes.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismayil Ismayilov spoke about President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to physical culture and sports, including wrestling and achievements of athletes in international competitions.

Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Khazar Isayev said that the development of wrestling starts with such competitions.

The AGF Vice-President Sahib Alakbarov said that the wrestlers are constantly earn great achievements as a result encouraged by attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev in sports.

Then the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded. After the parade left the carpet, competitions continued.

On the first day of the race, 90 wrestlers in Greco-Roman wrestling competed in 55, 63, 72, 82 and 97 kg categories.
