Baku. 5 October. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijan became a member of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Report informs, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said at a press conference in Baku. He said that in connection with this, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev issued a special order: “We were received by the President of Azerbaijan and it was a great honor for us. We were surprised in a positive way. He is a simple and generous man. He has full information about the sport. Many large tournaments were organized in Azerbaijan. Attention of the whole world was riveted to the WBC Convention in Baku. The president instructed the Minister of Youth and Sports to create a federation in Azerbaijan under the auspices of the WBC. Azerbaijan will become the 166th member of the Council. I am telling you "Welcome". I believe that the Azerbaijan will raise its champion not later than in 3 years. Federation is being created. Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide their assistance for the development of professional boxing”.

M. Sulaiman also clarified the issue of holding the 55th WBC Convention in Baku: "We, with the mediation of Vitali Klitschko, appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, as well as to the Minister of Youth and Sports. Azerbaijan is a 25-year-old sports country, it has special achievements. We proposed to hold WBC Convention in Baku. During our first visit, we were greeted with great hospitality. I thank Azerbaijan. We saw hospitality, which was not expected”.

Notably, the 55th WBC Convention is being held in Baku. The event is attended by representatives from 164 member countries, including many well-known boxers.
