1st int'l competition starts in Azerbaijan

International competitions in Azerbaijan will start today with the Trampoline Gymnastics World Cup, Report informs.

According to the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, 63 athletes from 14 countries are expected to take part in the competition, which will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena.

The athletes will compete according to the new rules of the International Gymnastics Federation. The qualifying round will be held on the first day of the competition, the second qualifying round among men, as well as the final rounds for men and women, will be held the next day.

Azerbaijan will be represented by a member of the national team Seljan Mahsudova.

Well-known trampolines include Belarusian representatives, winner of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, double European champion, winner of the European Games, world champion Vladislav Goncharov, winner of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics Ivan Litvinovich, five-time world and five-time European champion Oleg Ryabtsov, Russian representative, 2021 World Cup silver medalist and European champion Yana Lebedeva, Swedish representative, three-time world and European champion Lina Sjoberg, Austrian representative, bronze medalist of the Youth Olympic Games Benny Vizani, Georgian representative, European Games silver medalist Lyuba Golovina will compete in the World Cup.

The competition is planned to be held in accordance with the existing quarantine rules and sanitary-epidemiological requirements in Azerbaijan with the special permission of the Task Force under the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan and without spectators.

In the new Olympic rules, the second qualifying round is held when there are more than 31 participants in the qualifying round of trampoline gymnastics competitions. Depending on the scale of the competition and the number of participants, the second classification consists of 16 or 24 participants, respectively. Trampoline gymnastics has been developing in Azerbaijan since late 2013. This is the fifth time the World Cup is held in Baku.
