State Security Service exposes broad spy activity against Azerbaijan

Baku. 27 December. REPORT.AZ/ The State Security Service continues intensive investigation to disclose and prevent the spy activity of foreign special services in Azerbaijan.

Report informs citing the PR department of the service that the broad spy activity was disclosed by result of the operative investigation held under the lawsuit instituted in the State Security Service. As part of this activity, representatives of foreign special services held a multi-phased reconnaissance work in Azerbaijan for years, in this connection organized secret meetings in the territories of the neighbor countries and established channels to involve employees of Azerbaijani special service to individual collaboration. The respective persons were brought to criminal responsibility for high treason in the form of espionage and other criminal acts, the false and true identities of the special agents attracted to collaboration were revealed, their spying methods, operative reconnaissance activity were exposed up to the original source and neutralized.

It was established that Azerbaijani citizen Ismaylov Zakir Alibala oghlu, born in 1959 and attracted to secret collaboration in exchange for material remuneration by the foreign special services, committed an act of high treason during his work in the former National Security Ministry as the chief of department and on other responsible positions, by acting against the state security and national interests of Azerbaijan, regularly handing documents on counter-spying activity available to him, as well as the information and personnel and other classified data, as well as in period of retirement from 2015, using his old acquaintances and opportunities, declassifying information about the changes in the security bodies, analyses about the possible ways of reconnaissance against Azerbaijani special services.

The secret and coded correspondence of Zakir Ismaylov and foreign spy agencies, documents, sent to these agencies, electronic carriers of secret data, an audio tape and other numerous materials of importance for the case were revealed during the investigation. Zakir Ismaylov was held accountable under article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code and arrested.

It was also revealed that Yusifzade Bahruz Yashar oghlu, born in 1977, after being transferred to the reserve, during the trips to foreign countries, organized meetings with secret agents, who contacted him through a foreign citizen, was attracted by them to collaboration in exchange for material interests, and was instructed to again employ with one of the Azerbaijani special services. Yusifzade was exposed while acting in the indicated direction.

Yusifzade was brought to responsibility under article 274 (high treason) of the Criminal Code and arrested.
