The State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan continues to provide reliable protection of the state border against illicit drug trafficking.

According to the press service of the State Border Service, on June 5, within the framework of complex measures under the code name "Mak-2019", 2 tons of 680 kg of poppy bushes were found and destroyed in the area of 15 hectares in the Lerik region, and 2 tons of 376 kg of hemp bushes in the Agstafa district on an area of 1 hectare.

On July 5, border offenders were seen moving from Iran to Azerbaijan in the Yardimli district near the border post, they threw 935 grams of marijuana packed in a plastic bag and 1,052 grams of heroin, and fled back to Iran.

On 8 July, 111 grams of heroin, 10 grams of methamphetamine, 10 tablets of the psychotropic substance Methadone, 10 tablets of Tramadol were found and seized from three Iranian citizens who arrived in Azerbaijan at the border control point in Astara.

On July 15, residents of the Lankaran district Safarli Mohammed Mahir oglu, born in 1992, and Agabalayev Elkhan Bashir oglu, born in 1989, were detained in the border control point "Astara" while trying to cross from Iran to Azerbaijan. 6 grams and 7 grams of heroin were seized from them.

The State Customs Service carries out the operational and investigative measures on all the three facts.
