Baku. 19 November. REPORT.AZ/ "20% of our lands have been occupied, more than one million of our compatriots have become refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan. 132 km of Azerbaijan's state border with Iran became an uncontrolled zone, and drugs are transported from this area to Europe ", Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov said.
Report informs that he spoke at the 53rd session of the UN Subcommittee on Illicit Drug Trafficking and Related Matters in the Near and Middle East held in Baku.
He emphasized that Armenians culture drugs in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan: "The scale of the threat has been further enhanced by the creation of base for drug production and transit, the formation of terrorist groups, training and directing them to other conflict zones."
Hasanov noted that the borders were well protected in the USSR: "During the USSR, the borders of Azerbaijan were protected by the Russian border guards. Let’s acknowledge that borders were very strongly protected, and it was not possible to smuffle drugs. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the borders collapsed, contributing to the illicit drug trafficking. However, now the borders of the country are protected stronger. "
