Chairman of Supreme Court: No increase is observed in the number of grave crimes in Azerbaijan

Baku. 16 November. REPORT.AZ/ "No increase is observed in the number of grave crimes in Azerbaijan," Chairman of the Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev said.

Report informs that he spoke at a meeting with media leaders organized by the Press Council.

According to him, however, the number of civil cases in Azerbaijani courts has increased 20 times since 2000.

Rzayev noted that 470,000 civil cases were examined in courts in 2016: "There was a decrease in civil cases due to changes made in certain laws in 2017. The number of criminal cases in the last 18 years was nearly equal for each year. The number of criminal cases has not exceeded 15,000, either in 2000, or in 2005 or today. In general, there is no increase in the number of grave crimes in Azerbaijan."

According to the chairman of the Supreme Court, every judge of Baku courts reviews 130 cases per month on average: “However, every judge reviews 180-200 cases per month in districts".
