Azerbaijani Ombudsman appeals to Int’l Community on Gazakh mine blast

The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan has expressed concern over the recent landmine explosion in the Gushchu Ayrim village of the Gazakh district.

According to Report, the Ombudsman addressed the international community on the mine explosion in the Gazakh district.

“On October 14, a civilian was injured after stepping on an anti-personnel mine in the area.

Since the Second Karabakh War, over 380 individuals have fallen victim to landmines, and this tragic statistic continues to grow.

Armenia's failure to provide accurate maps of the minefields in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories not only violates the rights to life and health but also hinders the safe return of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their native lands and impedes the restoration and reconstruction efforts in the region.

Moreover, the explosion of these mines leads to water and air pollution, degradation of soil structure, and overall ecological crisis.

The international community must exert serious pressure on Armenia to hand over the precise mine maps and react strongly to the ongoing mine terror, military and environmental crimes, and humanitarian law violations,” reads the Ombudsman’s statement.
