Azerbaijan is strengthening measures to protect children from violence and other risks, Deputy Interior Minister Lieutenant General Ismat Aliyev said.
Report informs that he made the remarks at a presentation ceremony for a research report titled "Legal awareness of adolescents in Azerbaijan" and the book "Children and Law."
Aliyev said physical, psychological and moral violence against children, neglect, early marriage, as well as risks in cyberspace and road traffic, pose serious threats in the modern era.
"In this regard, consistent measures are being taken to identify children at risk in a timely manner, place them under protection, restore their rights and organise coordinated work with relevant state bodies," he said.
The deputy minister said children are not only the future of their families, but also of society and the state as a whole.
"Children's rights and social issues are among the important factors reflecting the future of the state, the moral health of society and the humanitarian nature of the law-enforcement system," he said.
Aliyev said the country's future development directly depend on the attitude shown toward children today and on ensuring their safety, rights and healthy development.
He added that the protection of children's rights has been defined as one of the priorities of state policy in Azerbaijan.
According to him, Azerbaijan's Constitution, the law "On the Rights of the Child" and international documents to which the country is a party, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, form an important legal basis in this area.
