The Operations and Investigation Department of the Southern Territorial Main Customs Office received a report on the smuggling of large quantities of drugs hidden in two DAF trucks (with registration plates 34AA941 / 34AA942 and 91D657-10 / 91D658-10) which allegedly transported raisins from Iran to Austria through the territory of Azerbaijan.

Customs officers detained the trucks driven by Iranian citizens Mirzaeisaatlou Akbar Parviz and Abdelikhanghah Ramin Mashatli at Bilasuvar customs checkpoint, according to the State Customs Committee, Report says.

The inspection revealed that the rectangular fuel tanks of the trucks were later tampered and divided into two parts, one of which was filled with a dark-brown solution with a pungent smell.

The customs officers seized a total of 281 kilograms and 435 grams of heroin in the trucks.

The drivers who were remanded in custody face charges under the Articles 206.3.2, 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
