Will Amazon get $10 bln contract from Pentagon?

The US Department of Defense "intends to rethink" the circumstances of the $10 billion contract to provide cloud services to the agency, a notice for the court where the contract's case is being processed, reads.

Earlier in October, it was revealed that Microsoft will get a contract from Pentagon, although Amazon previously was the main candidate, with a leading role in the cloud market. The US experts linked the decision to Donald Trump's confrontation with Amazon's Jeff Bezos and did not exclude that the President exerted heavy pressure on the Department of Defense. Amazon filed a lawsuit, and in February the court blocked the contract as an interim measure on a temporary basis.

During yesterday's statement for court, Pentagon asked for 120 days to reconsider the circumstances of submitting the contract, taking into account the rates suggested by companies and their market position on these services.

"Such deferment serves the interests of justice, as it would give our agency the possibility to rethink the decision about the contract on the grounds of allegations that were pointed by Amazon Web Services, and would give us an opportunity to analyze new information, that will be gathered during this deferment," the Department of Defense concluded.
