The base map covering the Karabakh region provided by international satellite data and analytics company EOS Data Analytics has been updated, Azerbaijan's Space Agency (Azercosmos) said in a statement.
As part of the update, the names of settlements in Karabakh that had previously been displayed in Armenian were replaced with Azerbaijan's official toponyms.
The Azercosmos team identified outdated settlement names on the base map and contacted EOS Data Analytics. During the process, the team provided data published on Azerbaijan's official Open Data Portal, Opendata.az, as well as relevant databases confirming the official names of the settlements.
Following approximately 11 months of cooperation and data exchange, EOS Data Analytics' product team reviewed the official information provided and made the relevant updates to the map covering Karabakh.
As a result, the official names of Khankandi, Khojavand, Aghdara, Sugovushan and other settlements in the Karabakh region are now correctly displayed on the digital map.
According to Azercosmos, the initiative contributes to the accurate representation of Azerbaijan's official geographical names on international digital maps and enables global users to access up-to-date and reliable geospatial information about the country.
The update also demonstrates the role of official open data in improving the accuracy of information displayed on international maps.
