British, New Zealand authorities oppose Facebook's activity in their countries

Baku. 18 February. REPORT.AZ/ Britain accuses Facebook of violating laws, while New Zealand plans to increase taxes for the company.

Report informs citing foreign media that the country's authorities oppose the company's activity  in their countries.

Thus, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Monday the current tax system isn’t fair and there is a gap that needs to be closed.

She said the proposed digital services tax would tax multinational online companies at about 2 or 3 per cent on the revenue they generate in New Zealand. She said the rate is in line with other countries considering similar taxes.

British MPs have accused Facebook of "intentionally and knowingly" violating data privacy laws and called for a code of ethics to regulate social media platforms to limit the spread of fake news.

They accused the tech giant of being "willing to override its users' privacy settings in order to transfer data to some app developers".
