Azercosmos launches AI-powered Platerra for satellite image analysis

The Azerbaijan Space Agency (Azercosmos) has launched Platerra, an AI-powered product for satellite image analysis.

According to Report, citing Azercosmos, Platerra automatically processes satellite imagery using artificial intelligence and converts it into geospatial data that can be used for decision-making.

The platform combines AI-based solutions for enhancing satellite image quality, detecting forest areas, identifying the surface area of water bodies, detecting various objects and determining the boundaries of agricultural fields.

Demand for geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) solutions is growing rapidly worldwide. According to market research, the broader GeoAI market was estimated at $38 billion-$60 billion in 2025, depending on the methodology used, and is projected to grow at an annual rate of 12%-26% through 2035.

AI-based analysis of satellite imagery is regarded as one of the segments with particularly strong growth potential.

Azercosmos said the launch of Platerra is one of the key results of its efforts to apply advanced technologies and transform space data into innovative solutions.

Further development of the platform is intended to expand satellite data processing capabilities, facilitate its use across different fields and enable faster access to geospatial information.

According to the research, fewer than 10 major providers currently operate globally in this segment, offering platforms that allow users to perform AI analytics on satellite imagery.

Platerra is expected to broaden satellite data processing capabilities and support more efficient use of such data across various sectors. Its launch also strengthens the integration of space data with AI technologies, making satellite imagery more accessible and practical as a decision-making tool.
