AKTA calls for wider use of AI in cybersecurity

Artificial intelligence should be used to reduce human error in cybersecurity, Rauf Jabbarov, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Cybersecurity Organizations Association (AKTA), said.

According to Report, he made the proposal during an experience-sharing session organized by the National NGO Forum with the participation of NGO Tech Talks experts.

Jabbarov cited recent data on breaches in 2024-2025, saying the average financial loss per data breach in 2024 reached $4.88 million, up 10% from the previous year and the highest level recorded so far.

He added that the average cost of a breach involving cloud platforms stood at $5.17 million.

According to Jabbarov, 74% of all data breaches are linked to the human factor, including mistakes, social engineering and insider misuse.

He said the use of artificial intelligence and automation in security could help reduce these risks, while regular cybersecurity awareness and training for employees also remained essential.

Jabbarov noted that organizations using AI in cybersecurity could save as much as $2.22 million. He also recommended the Zero Trust model, which involves continuous verification of users and devices and tighter access controls.

He stressed the importance of regular security audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities early and take preventive measures.
