WHO says global COVID incidence stabilized

Michael Ryan, director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Health Emergencies Program, said that the spread of coronavirus infection had stabilized at a very high level, Report informs.

He also expressed the opinion that the situation with the spread of COVID-19 is better than two or three months ago.

However, Ryan noted that the situation in different countries is different: there is a sharp decline in the incidence in several countries, while in others, the number of new cases is growing. In his opinion, this is due to several factors, such as the spread of new strains of coronavirus, which are more infectious, mitigation of anti-epidemiological measures, and increased contact between people.

In turn, Maria van Kerkhove, head of the WHO’s emerging diseases unit, described the situation with the spread of coronavirus infection in the world as ‘ambiguous.’ She noted that a decrease in the number of new infection cases was recorded in the Americas, but in other continents, there is an increase in the number of infected.
