WHO chief warns of danger of new coronavirus strains for unvaccinated

The rapid lifting of the restrictions imposed to curb the coronavirus pandemic could be disastrous for the unvaccinated due to the spread of new COVID strains, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a briefing, Report informs.

With the increased global spread of coronavirus strains, including the Delta variant, lifting restrictions too quickly could be disastrous for those who have not yet been vaccinated, according to Ghebreyesus.

He also added that the uneven distribution of COVID-19 vaccines allows the virus to spread, increasing the likelihood of coronavirus mutations that reduce vaccines' effectiveness.
