"1,234 people were registered in primary dispensaries in 2019, with 667 of them children aged 0-17," said Aynura Zeynalova, an adviser to the Health Ministry's Healthcare Organization Department.
According to her, 1,291 out of 5,591 people recorded were children aged 0-17: "This means that there is a growing trend in this field."
The ministry official noted that over the past 20 years, the country has seen an increase in weight and obesity among children and adolescents:
"People who are overweight are more likely to have diabetes. In 2020, more than 287,000 people were diagnosed with diabetes, and 1,957 of them are children aged 0-17."
