Health Ministry: No monkeypox cases registered in Azerbaijan

No cases of monkeypox infection have been recorded in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Health told Report.

In accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, serious epidemiological control is being carried out: “For now, WHO doesn’t recommend any additional measures in connection with international travel.”

Monkeypox is a rare viral zoonotic disease transmitted to humans from animals. The virus can enter the body through broken skin, the respiratory tract, or through the eyes, nose, and mouth. Human-to-human transmission of the disease is possible through prolonged close contact. The main symptom of the disease is a purulent rash that appears on the face and covers the entire body in a short time. Before the onset of clinical symptoms of the disease, the patient and persons in contact with the patient are not considered contagious.
