Azerbaijan elected Codex Alimentarius coordinator for Europe

Azerbaijan has been elected coordinator of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the European region.

According to Report, citing the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, the decision was made during the 34th session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Europe, held in Berlin.

As Germany's term as coordinator country comes to an end, Azerbaijan was proposed to assume the role for the next period. All 52 members of the committee unanimously supported Azerbaijan's candidacy.

Azerbaijan will begin carrying out its functions from the next session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.

One of Azerbaijan's main responsibilities as coordinator will be to lead the committee and help coordinate cooperation among European countries on the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, food safety and the implementation of international food standards.
