Zakir Hasanov attends Council of CIS Defense Ministers

A meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states was held at the International Military Center in Moscow, the Russian bureau of Report informs.

The meeting was attended by delegations of the defense ministries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee and the Secretariat of the Council of CIS Defense Ministers.

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Azerbaijani defense minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov.

“Over the years of joint work, an atmosphere of trusting relations has developed, contributing to the strengthening of traditional and development of new areas of interaction among the armed forces of the CIS countries,” Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the opening of the meeting.

He pointed to the symbolism of the meeting in anticipation of the 30th anniversary of the Organization. According to the Russian minister, the format of the Council of Defense Ministers makes it possible to expand the range of partnerships and make effective decisions in the interests of ensuring the military security of the CIS.

Following the meeting, the defense ministers of the CIS countries approved a plan of joint events for 2022 and determined the prospects for the development of military cooperation.

It was also decided to conduct a computerized command post air defense exercise by the CIS countries in 2022.
