Türkiye highly appreciates Azerbaijan's efforts for the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) to obtain official status at the UN, Turkish Permanent Representative to the UN and former Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Yildiz told Report.
According to him, obtaining this status is one of the key goals of the Turkic states.
Yildiz spoke about efforts to have the Turkic language recognized at the UN and emphasized that the organization will celebrate Turkic Language Day in December. "Some languages - for example, Portuguese and Russian - are not official languages of the UN, but special days are dedicated to them," he said.
He added that one of the OTS' key goals is to achieve broader recognition of the organization internationally.
"We are working in this direction jointly with our Azerbaijani counterpart. Many people are still insufficiently aware of the OTS, and Turkic Language Day will provide an additional platform for its presentation. Furthermore, Kyrgyzstan has put forward its candidacy for the UN Security Council, and we must ensure its election," he said.
