Baku. 27 June. REPORT.AZ/ Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells will travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, June 27-29, Report informs citing US State Department press-service.
Alice Wells will participate in a meeting of the International Contact Group (ICG) on Afghanistan.
Over fifty countries and international organizations will participate in the meeting with the goal of aligning international efforts to support Afghanistan in its pursuit of peace and security. Participants will also discuss Afghanistan’s preparations for parliamentary and presidential elections that are due to take place over the next ten months.
On the sidelines of the ICG meeting, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Wells will meet with senior Azerbaijani government officials to thank them for Azerbaijan’s continued support to the Afghan government and NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
Ambassador Wells will also meet with senior representatives from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and many governments including China, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, whose recent statements in support of the Eid ceasefire were a clear indication of strong international support for an Afghan peace process.
