UN Women Regional Coordinator: Azerbaijan supports gender equality agenda

Azerbaijan supports the gender equality agenda and highly appreciates the role of women in peacebuilding, UN Women Regional Coordinator Kaori Ishikawa said in Aghdam during the annual high-level strategic consultations between the Azerbaijani Government and local UN offices.

According to her, the issue of gender equality is a priority for Azerbaijan in many areas.

Ishikawa noted that the UN has many initiatives regarding women.

This year, 21 Azerbaijani companies have joined the UN Global Compact [Global Compact is a UN project aimed at promoting the social responsibility of business], Ishikawa said, adding that the UN supports such initiatives by Azerbaijan in the name of inclusiveness and sustainable development.
