UN official: US will make mistake by moving embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem

Baku. 20 July. REPORT.AZ/ “It is very important that Azerbaijan is hosting the conference dedicated to the issue of Eastern Jerusalem. We express gratitude to Azerbaijan for this,” Chairman of the UN Committee on Implementation of the Rights of the Palestinian People, Rafael Dario Carreno told Report commenting on the holding of the international conference on the Jerusalem problem in Baku.

He highlighted Azerbaijan’s balanced foreign policy and the fact that this country has good relations with Palestine and Israel.

The UN representative also emphasized the importance of the conflict settlement based on the principle of “two states for two nations”. Furthermore, he noted the unacceptability of pursuing the policy of Israel on the construction of settlements in the Palestinian territories: “Thus, they destroy the possibility of peace finding.”

Speaking about the US attempts to move the Embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem, Dario Carreno said that this step would be wrong: “The US has a big responsibility on this issue, and if they move the Embassy, it would disrupt all the agreements.”
