"Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan is successfully developing in all areas," Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said at a meeting with Uzbek Senate Speaker Tanzila Narbayeva, Report's Russian bureau informs.
She stressed the high level of relations between the two countries, noting that the documents signed between the two countries form a solid legal framework for cooperation. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis stressed that the Presidents' mutual visits and the talks played an essential role in bringing the relations to the current high level.
Gafarova stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is already in the past for Azerbaijan and that during the 44-day war, under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the country's Armed Forces liberated the lands occupied for 30 years. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis informed about the construction work carried out in the liberated areas. She voiced regret that despite all the calls, Armenia refuses to provide Azerbaijan with maps of mined areas, in gross violation of the principles of international humanitarian law. She called on the international community to express its position on this issue. The speaker informed her interlocutor of the work done in Azerbaijan to combat the pandemic.
In turn, Narbayeva stressed the role of parliaments in developing Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations, recalling with satisfaction her visit to Azerbaijan in 2013. She also noted the importance of expanding cooperation between the regions of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
