Sergei Markov: Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway useful for Russia as well
Report

Moscow. 30 October. REPORT.AZ/ Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will give an additional impetus to the development of the South Caucasus region.

Member of the Public Chamber of Russia, political analyst Sergei Markov told the Russia bureau of Report News Agency commenting on the today's opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway (BTK) in Baku.

"Although Baku-Tbilisi-Kars overpasses Russia, but it is useful for us. This is a necessary increase in the density of transport infrastructure in such an important region as the South Caucasus.

The railway will give an additional impetus to the development of the economy and regional economic cooperation", Markov said.

According to him, BTK is an important project, which sooner or later had to come true.

"The same project of the southern transport corridor, the so-called "North-South", is absolutely correct, the right project. There are only 170 kilometers of the railway to build and the result is a road linking India and Northern Europe”, member of the Public Chamber said.
