If Heydar Aliyev had led the Soviet Union, there would have been peace in the post-Soviet space, Alexei Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee of the Russian Federation, said at a memorial evening in Moscow dedicated to the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, Report informs.
He noted that a personality of such magnitude will live forever in people's memory throughout the post-Soviet space.
"It's difficult to find someone who wouldn't know Heydar Aliyev. Nevertheless, we must remember such personalities as him, talk about them and try to preserve the legacy they left behind. Heydar Aliyev left behind an enormous legacy both in Azerbaijan and in Russia," said Zhuravlev.
