Russian expert: Perpetrators of Khojaly genocide should be brought to justice

"We have gathered here to commemorate the victims of one of the horrible tragedies of the late 20th century – the Khojaly genocide. The killing of innocent civilians cannot be justified," Russian journalist and military expert Igor Korotchenko said at an event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide.

"The rules of international humanitarian law protect civilians from any form of military violence. Unfortunately, the events in Khojaly resulted in the massacre and death of innocent civilians."

According to the expert, all perpetrators of genocide must be severely punished: "The crime against humanity has no statute of limitations, therefore, based on the norms of justice, those responsible for this tragedy must be punished. Those who killed and ordered to kill should be brought to justice. We must talk about the responsibility of those politicians who sanctioned what happened on Azerbaijani soil. Today we demand justice for Khojaly."

Korotchenko said: "On behalf of the Russian expert community, we express our deepest condolences, we remember this date and will always remember it. We demand justice and are confident that this justice will come one day."
