"I hope that the day will come when the State Duma - the Lower House of the Russian Parliament - will also pay attention to this problem and make an appropriate decision that will restore justice and will be a recognition of those tragic events," Doctor of Historical Sciences, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Rahman Mustafayev said at an event in the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, Report informs.
According to the diplomat, the Khojaly tragedy was one of the most brutal crimes against civilians in modern history, he also mentioned the campaign "Justice for Khojaly", initiated in 2008 by Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva: "More than 16 years have passed since the launch of the campaign, and it has proven to be quite effective. The parliaments of 18 countries condemned this crime as a crime against humanity," said Mustafayev.
The ambassador also spoke about the process of restoration of the liberated territories: "Today we celebrate this day in special conditions - in the conditions of liberated Karabakh. Active restoration of social and economic life is underway. Schools and infrastructure facilities are being restored, demining work is underway," he noted.
Mustafayev called on Azerbaijanis in Russia and other countries to continue to convey the truth about the Khojaly tragedy: "We expect that our compatriots in Russia and other countries will continue to actively work in this direction, convey the truth about the Khojaly tragedy, fight for justice," the ambassador added.
